Jim Marafiote closing on an 8th SAHPA Overall Points Title
Metro club flyer Jim Marafiote is in a strong position to win the South Australian Homing Pigeon Association Overall Points for a record eigth time.
Marafiote finished 2nd in the Wilcannia Open and 12th in the Wilcannia 5 Bird races to add 47 points to his tally and take the lead in the SAHPA Overall Aggregate points.
He is now on 144 points
Rick and Len Drew, who finished second in the Aggregate points last year, are having another outstanding season.
They finished 3rd in the Wilkcannia Open and 10th in the Wilcannia 5 Bird and are on 128 points
Two more SAHPA races will be held this Saturday and Sunday, The Twins (2), and Marla
Marariote is South Australia’s greatest living flyer and joined the legends of South Australian Pigeon racing – the late Keith Wickham, John Pryor, Vin Blanden and Allen Goodger – with a record breaking 2022 season in the SAHPA

He was pushed all season by good friend and clubmate Vasile Curea, who won the final race of the season from Border Village on the Nullarbor – with Marafiote finishing SIXTH
Marafiote amassed a record 409 points – being Association placed in all but two of the races during 2022 – with Curea finishing on 361 points
